How to Create an Audience Segment

This article applies to the following role permissions: ConexED Administrator - Department Director - Group Manager

Segmenting your audience based on different criteria allows you to tailor messages to specific groups of students, fostering stronger connections and promoting increased engagement. Learn how to use our Audience Segment feature along with Drip Campaigns and Email Templates to engage a targeted student audience with personalized communications.

Accessing Audience Segments

Start by navigating to the Email Templates section under your CRM & Cohort Messaging Center:

By default, you will be directed to the Audience Segments page:

This page allows you to easily view and edit your current audience segments, as well as create new ones.

 

Creating a New Audience Segment

To create a new Audience Segment, start by clicking on the "Create Audience Segment" button. Next, enter a name in the popup window that appears. Once you have named your Audience Segment, simply click the "Create" button to finalize the process:

Your newly created segment will then be displayed in the table. Click "Edit" to further refine and expand your segment as needed:

Adding Students to an Audience Segment

Once inside your segment, you'll find options to manage students, start Drip Campaigns, and send tailored emails using predefined Email Templates.

Clicking on the "Add Students" button offers various methods to assign students to your Audience Segment:

You can choose to assign students individually by email or SIS ID, or opt for mass assignment via file upload, label, or Cohort:

  • Mass Assign: Begin by downloading the .xlsx template and enter the names and email addresses of the desired students. Once completed, select the file by clicking on the "Choose File" button, then upload it by clicking "Upload" to add the students to your Audience Segment.
  • Mass Assign By Label: Click within the text field to reveal a dropdown menu containing existing student labels at your institution. You can also type in the field to quickly locate and select the desired student label.
  • Mass Assign By Cohort: This option allows for a one-time assignment of students from a Cohort. It's important to note that if a student is added to the selected Cohort after the Cohort of students has been assigned to the Audience Segment, the new student will not be automatically added.

You can also dynamically sync your Audience Segment with a Cohort by clicking "Sync with Cohort":

When you click on this button, a pop-up will appear, giving you the option to select an existing Cohort to sync with your segment:

Once you have selected the Cohort you would like to sync with your segment, simply click the "Sync" button. This feature ensures that your Audience Segment stays updated in real-time based on changes in the associated Cohort. This means that any changes or additions made to the Student List of the selected Cohort will automatically reflect in your Audience Segment. 

 

Actions Within Audience Segments

Drip campaigns and email templates are powerful tools within your reach on the Audience Segments page. When you click on either the "Start Drip Campaign" or "Send Email from Template" button, a pop-up will appear allowing you to choose from a selection of existing Drip Campaigns or Email Templates that best suit the needs and preferences of your specific Audience Segment:
